Features of the Art Deco Building
The side entrance to this building showcases many of the hallmark features of the Art Deco style of the 1930’s-1950’s.
Art Deco was extremely forward thinking and modern at the time and was pulled together from the German Bauhaus School of Modern Design. Architects aimed at creating something completely different from previous eras and used different materials and shapes to achieve a unique style.
Geometric motif (grooved) brick walls, pale rendering, high ceilings, terrazzo floors and the curved elaborate staircase are all featured here.
The upstairs rooms you are about to see would have been leased out to other business’s at some stage of this buildings history.
Some of the original office doors still have mail slots to deliver the mail to each individual business.
This grand entrance foyer would have been the main entry point for the upstairs tenants of that time.
